THOMAS MCCARGAR, tenor, is pleased to be in his first season with Chanticleer. A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Mr. McCargar graduated summa cum laude with a Vocal Performance degree from Drake University in May 2004. While at Drake, he was involved in the choral and opera programs, singing the baritone solos in Orff's Carmina Burana and Count Almaviva in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. He also played principal trumpet in the Wind Symphony, assistant directed the pep band, and had his first experience with men's a cappella music: a student-initiated sextet called the FACrats. Mr. McCargar was the national winner of the 2004 MTNA Young Artist Voice Competition, and in 2002 was named Grand Champion of the state-wide Bill Riley Talent Search, winning $7500. Outside of music, he is a huge sports fan and enjoys watching Friends and Family Guy on DVD. He would like to thank his parents and seven siblings for their undying support.
