WILLIAM SAUERLAND, alto, comes to Chanticleer from a small dairy farm in southwest Ohio. In May 2005, he earned a bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Miami University in Ohio where he trained as a countertenor under the tutelage of Audrey Luna. His favorite operatic credits include Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Sandman in Hansel und Gretel, and Amahl in Amahl and the Night Visitors. Mr. Sauerland’s primary interest is the study and performance of music from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. His research extends to the authenticity of countertenors in Baroque opera, as well as to the technique and pedagogy of modern falsettists. |
