Jobim, Waits, Ravel

A wild combination of composers to record today, We finished Jorge Calandrelli's timelessly elegant arrangement for us of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Chega de saudade," then Tom Wait's "Temptation" arranged by Vince Peterson. "Temptation" was one of the big hits on our 2012-13 program "The Siren's Call". Next Ravel's "Pavane" in a jazz arrangement for us by Laurence Hobgood. This is the first Chanticleer recording with each singer on his own mike. Eric's, which is gold, is a powered ribbon mike, which means it has it's own amplifier

Elbow-Eldridge/Gabriel-Bates

There are a lot of interesting looking boats on the Bay, but you can't really see them for the fog. Up here in Marin County it's sunny and beautiful as usual. We're spending Sunday doing Elbow's "Mirrorball" arranged by Peter Eldridge with a big solo. There are lots of solos on this album;we hope you'll like that. Tonight moving on to "Washing of the Water " by Peter Gabriel arranged by our friend Mason Bates. Part of our desire for this record was to work with many of today's most dynamic arrangers, in combination with some of the most brilliant and established, the latter including Jorge Calandrelli and the late Bill Finegan.

Last tour of duty for Casey and Mike

After this recording (for which Mike sports a festive facial hair arrangement) Casey and Mike will both leave us for other artistic pursuits. Casey will go solo, while acting will be Mike's next career. We'll miss them, but there's a way to go yet. We finished M83's "Wait" first thing today. Steve Hackman's arrangements are complex and challenging, and pretty virtuosic. Now we're all relaxing while Eric lays down a bass line for "Ease on down the Road" which we hope to finish tonight.

Recording at Skywalker

Under the expert supervision of legendary producer Leslie Ann Jones, we're having all kinds of fun here at Skywalker making our new jazz/pop recording "Someone "New" for release in September. Right now we're doing Gotye's "I feel better." Last session was Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire."Have we whetted your appetite? Or at least aroused your curiosity?? All new arrangements made specially for us.
