Our very exciting LAB ( Louis A. Botto) Choir program has kicked off a new year with the start of LAB 5.  These students from Bay Area high schools and colleges will be working hard with Ben Johns for the next ten weeks.

Ben writes:

To start, we accomplished reading through 11 pieces of difficult music (8 different languages) and began to refine the shape of each song. With an international theme for this set, our biggest challenge will be to change musical styles to match the tradition from which each song comes. Much time will be spent outside of rehearsal researching, analyzing, and emulating these musical styles.

We now have a social committee to organize activities outside of rehearsal. For some singers, this is their 5th or 6th LAB experience and bonds are growing strong.

The 24 singers in LAB 5 now come from San Jose, Palo Alto,Pleasanton, Concord/Clayton, Walnut Creek/Lafayette, Piedmont, San Francisco, Davis, and Santa Rosa. I'm still amazed at the level of committment and work ethic in these young singers. Who gives up a holiday weekend to spend in choir rehearsal? LAB 5.
