What Do You Think I Fought For?
March 31 – April 4
Four very personal musical reflections on conflict will be accompanied by film, video, and personal testimony. This program features: “Leatherstocking,” a 16-minute 1909 film by D.W. Griffith, based on James Fenimore Cooper’s The Last of the Mohicans, score composed for Chanticleer and hand drums by Brent Michael Davids, a member of the Stockbridge Mohican Nation. “What do you think I fought for at Omaha Beach?” Composer Melissa Dunphy sets to music a deeply moving letter about human rights by World War II veteran Phillip Spooner. Chanticleer works once again with composer Shulamit Ran on a piece immersed in the retelling of a holocaust survivor's experiences in the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp.
