2008/09 Bay Area Season

Chanticleer's 2008/09 Bay Area Season features 28 performances of four programs:
Wondrous Free, A Chanticleer Christmas, Composers / Our Age and The Divine Orlando.

Wondrous Free

The season opener celebrates the 250th anniversary of the first American song, “My Days Have Been So Wondrous Free,” penned by Francis Hopkinson in 1759.  Chanticleer lends its signature sound to a program of song in America in the context of song throughout the world. Highlights from the program include works by William Billings, Juan de Lienas, Juan Gutierrez de Padilla, Paul Chihara, Samuel Barber, and a newly commissioned work by David Conte.

The Divine Orlando

Chanticleer was founded to explore the beautiful and complex vocal music of the Renaissance.  Perhaps the greatest composer of the period was Orlando di Lasso, known as “The Divine.”  So respected was he, that over 2000 of his works survive to this day.  Chanticleer will perform his magnificent Missa tous les regrets and Pentecostal Psalms.
