Dear Friends,

Working with choral students in Connecticut

This year, Chanticleer turns 30!   The milestone of our thirtieth anniversary Is exciting and humbling, and surely indicates that Chanticleer has found its permanent place among the world’s great performing ensembles.  In recognition of this achievement, Musical America has named Chanticleer its 2008 Ensemble of the Year--the first vocal ensemble so honored.   These 30 years have seen thousands of concerts all over the world, tens of thousands of students inspired by our education programs, and innumerable listeners enchanted by our music through radio and television broadcast, and by our 30 recordings.

We look forward in this season to a 40-concert national tour plus 30 concerts in the Bay Area,

And, in Europe, our return to Vienna’s Musikverein, Paris’ St. Roch, Vilnius’ Philharmonic Hall, and our debuts in Luxembourg’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Beaux Arts in Bruges, the Prague State Opera House, and the Palace of Arts in Budapest.  At home here in the Bay Area we will premiere an important new work written for us and The Shanghai String Quartet by Chen Yi, and take to the mission road – El Camino Real-to bring to light unknown music from the mission period.

All this, and our education program goes from strength to strength – last year we were working with students on 70 days of the year.  Our Chanticleer in Sonoma five-day workshop attracted 60 singers from 18 to 80, and our Youth Choral Festivals are in demand all over the country, as well as being a permanent fixture of our Bay Area program.

Chanticleer’s Board of Trustees is committed to honoring these 30 years of achievement and looking forward to many more by supporting Chanticleer’s full-time ensemble and its artistic and educational aspirations.  Your encouragement and support and attendance have made these thirty years possible.

Our touring, recording, and ticket sales covers only a portion of our annual expenses; we must raise close to one million in contributed income to keep Chanticleer at its current level of excellence.
