We opened our season at the San Francisco Conservatory ( twice) and the Mission Santa Clara, both full of warm and supportive home town crowds. They seemed to like everything, especially the early music, our new commission by Stacy Garrop “Give Me Hunger” and various tunes from our new album “Someone New” which was having a brisk pre-sale before its actual release in a week or so. New bass-baritone Marques Jerrell Ruff had a solo outing in Cole Porter’s “So in love” arranged by Joe Jennings. Joe’s wonderful arrangement of “Willow Weep for Me” is also a crowd favorite. Of the new stuff, M83′s “Mirrorball” and Steve Hackman’s “Wait” Fantasy seem to have a lot of resonance with audiences – so far. Next weekend Lafayette and Sacramento, and then we’re off into the rest of America.
