Live at the Carol Channing Auditorium, with 500 kids

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Once or twice a year we ask a Bay Area High School to host us for a concert to which their and other students could be invited.  Today Lowell High School hosted us in the auditorium named for just one of their many distinguished alums, Carol Channing.  500 choral singing students came from 3 big high schools and a number of smaller ones, and were one of the best student audiences we've had.  They were really fun to perform  for and to talk to.  We did a quick trip through our entire repertoire,  from Gabrieli to Tom Waits by way of Chen Yi and Mason Bates.  We hope we inspired them to keep singing.

I have always loved a Capella singing and am puzzled why not enough singers sing this way. Well, after experiencing the performance today I now know why – clearly it is for the very gifted and Chanticleer is by far the best around. I was riveted to my seat as I thoroughly enjoyed the journey they took me on with all their songs – simply magnificent! And they saved their best for last with their rendition of “Temptation” – man that was smokin’!
