We're very proud of the growth of our education program - under the leadership of former ensemble member Ben Johns- into a sequence of opportunities benefitting about 5000 adults and students a year. A certain amount of that we, the ensemble, do on the road in master-classes, workshops and Youth Choral Festivals in colleges, universities, and high schools across the country. At home Ben is in constant motion giving clinics in Bay Area schools and directing the LAB Choir.Skills/LAB - now in its third year- is a 7 day summer program offering students at a variety of levels the opportunity to improve their skills.
Skills/LAB started today. It's a 9am-9pm deal, and any of us would love to have had the opportunity when we were in high school. The daily schedule includes, warm ups, tutti rehearsals, small ensemble rehearsals, music history, conducting, movement, speaking text and more. We will be participating as teachers, and in Gregory's case as the leader of a small ensemble next week. Close to 60 Bay Area students are enrolled. There will be a final concert on Saturday the 10th at St. Mark's Lutheran in San Francisco.
Opening day started with get acquainted, warm up, and ensemble building exercises with Ben Johns and his assistant Michael Morales.
