Our trip out east continued to be full of enjoyable drives through beautiful scenery. After Cullowhee, we performed in Charlotte, North Carolina and Clemson, South Carolina ( followed by a day for education - a Lecture Concert for 450 students and a masterclass with the Clemson University Glee Club). On the way we had visited the Biltmore Mansion - America's biggest house- in Asheville, North Carolina.
Now we're home for a few days off before our last set of Christmas rehearsals. Our first "A Chanticleer Christmas" performance is on November 27 in Fairfax, VA at George Mason - the traditional starting point for this long and rewarding tour which will end on December 23 in Livermore, California, after 24 concerts in Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Chicago and many of our favorite places in the San Francisco Bay Area. American Public Media will be taping the performance at Stanford, as usual, so it should be coming to a public radio station near starting around the 11th. We'll be interested to know how you like the new piece we commissioned for Christmas - Swedish Composer Jan Sandstrom's "The Word Became Flesh." We think it's beautiful.
At home - Ben Johns is out recruiting for LAB Choir 3 for the session starting January 15. In the last two days he's held auditions at Concord and Acalanes High Shcools, and Santa Rosa Junior college for singers to join those who will carry over from LAB Choir 2, whose session just finished.
In our office, our trusty volunteer Evelyn is the fulfillment department for the CD orders which are starting to pour into our digital storefront and over the phone. "A Chanticleer Christmas" is not surprisingly the leader of the pack and we appreciate each and every purchase. It helps us a lot for you to order from us, and we also like seeing your CDs leave our office heading your way and knowing that we're going to be a part of your Christmas.
