Prairie Home companion - what we sang

That was really fun!! For those of you who want to know, the songs we sang which were NOTparodies by Garrison Keillor were:

Hinbarra - Michael McGlynn Temptation - Tom Waits.

Both of those are on our recent live recording Siren's Call - available from our website.

We loved backing up Garrison Keillor in his hymn and singing the hilarious Les Mis sketch.. as well as making fun of ourselves in a parody of the Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore...not to mention Garrison's words to our Grieg...

We'll go on anytime Prairie Home Companion asks....

Live in Livermore and on the radio nation-wide

Last night we made our annual Christmas visit to the 500 seat Broadbank Theater in downtown Livermore - about an hour from San Francisco.  As we had stayed in Sacramento ( to avoid the usually horrendous mid-afternoon traffic up to Livermore from S.F.) some of us took the time yesterday to drive backroads which was a fascinating look at the Delta - one of California's wonders and a huge flooding worry here.  The Broadbank was a sold out and happy audience as always.

Meanwhile national public radio is broadcasting selections from past and present Christmas concerts, and an hour long version of this year's concert, taped at Stanford's Memorial Church.  Check your local radio listings.  In the Bay Area the concert will be aired Friday night at 9pm on KALW and on Sunday evening (tba) on KDFC.  Speaking of radio, we'll be live on Prairie Home Companion from the SF Opera House on January 12.

Lobby CD sales (by a rotation of our administrative staff members, and Education Director Ben Johns)  have been brisk this year, the leaders being "A Chanticleer Christmas" and last year's release "Our Favorite Carols"  - live recordings from past national public radio broadcasts.  The latter seems to be extremely popular this season - perhaps because of the healthy chunk of caroling we do on the second part of this year's program, including four Joe Jennings' classics.  Our most recent studio release "By Request" is on the table also - here's a review from

We're looking forward to revisiting Carmel and Santa Clara - two of our favorite missions- this weekend, and our return to St. Ignatius for the closer.  Big rain storms a'comin, however.
