2023 San Francisco, preliminary pre-screening materials deadline: January 8th (finalists notified by January 18th)
2023 San Francisco, in-person final round: February 17th-19th
San Francisco Preliminary Pre-screening Audition Requirements:
A current resume
A brief cover letter in which you tell us a little about yourself and discuss why singing in a small ensemble, and Chanticleer in particular, is interesting or intriguing to you.
Audio uploads that include:
One art song or aria in a foreign language (accompanied or unaccompanied)
One non-classical selection (e.g., jazz, folk song, popular, show tune - accompanied or unaccompanied)
A recording of you singing one line from “Loquebantur variis linguis” by Thomas Tallis. You can find a score here. Choose whichever part you think best suits your voice. Start where your part enters and sing through measure 28. This excerpt must be unaccompanied.
Notes on audition materials:
There are no fees associated with your application.
You will need to have or create a Google account in order to upload your files.
Please do not send physical materials.
Simple, phone-quality recordings are fine.
You may upload videos if you like, although videos are not required.
We’re looking for unique and exciting voices that are equally at home singing with others as they are singing as soloists.
Chanticleer prides itself on being comprised of 12 singers with a wide variety of skills. We hope that you will showcase your strengths. Don’t worry too much if portions of the audition materials requested are outside your comfort zone.
Please refer to the FAQ page for more information.
All further questions may be directed to the assistant music director, Gerrod Pagenkopf, at auditions@chanticleer.org
CHANTICLEER COVID SAFETY POLICY
Chanticleer is committed to the health and safety of our artists and staff. We will comply with all local, state and CDC guidelines regarding public performances and will update our policy if guidelines change.
You must be fully vaccinated to audition; proof of vaccination is required upon arrival. Full vaccination is defined as completion of the two-dose regimen of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or one dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine administered two weeks or more in advance of the event.
We ask that if you have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 10 days or in the last 14 days have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 that you do not attend the audition. We also request that if you have any COVID-19 symptoms (including shortness of breath, cough, sore throat, loss of smell or taste, fever), that you do not attend the audition.
While Chanticleer can guarantee that all staff and singers are vaccinated, and we know you will do your part by observing all protocols noted here, we recognize that none of these precautions completely eliminate the risk of exposure to COVID-19.
