Louis Botto, our founder, was deeply devoted to the California missions. Chanticleer, his dream, had its first San Francisco performance in the Mission San Francisco de Asis in 1978. By the mid 1990’s, Chanticleer had become a leader in the revival of the music written for the missions, collaborating often with Professor Craig Russell who edited some of the newly found treasures just for us. Chanticleer has sung in 11 of the 21 California missions, but never in the tiny Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma. As part of our 40th Anniversary festivities, it is only fitting that we celebrate our long romance with the missions and their earliest music and salute our retiring basso profundo Eric Alatorre who has sung in so many of them.

You will have an unusually intimate experience of Mexican and Bolivian baroque music with commentary by Craig Russell, Fred Scott, and Eric. The concert will be followed by a reception in the nearby historic Barracks when we will invite you to offer your own personal toasts to Eric with Adastra Wines generously furnished by Chris and Naomi Thorpe.

Should you decide to make a day of it in beautiful Sonoma, Chris and Naomi will welcome you for a complimentary afternoon wine tasting at Adastra Wine and Art at 5 E Napa Street on the Sonoma Plaza. Eric will join you there for greetings and reminiscences from 2pm-3:30pm. We will have restaurant recommendations and parking advice for you.
