Come listen to the music of a not-so-distant India through the ears of a second generation immigrant. Curated by our tenor Vineel Garisa Mahal, this concert will feature music ranging from Thyagaraja to Sid Sriram. We’ll explore not only how Indian music has changed and evolved, but also how perceptions of this “perfect” and “true” art form can change as well. Time and distance often bring perspective. Looking back across the generations, perhaps we’ll realize that music – and life – are less about perfection, and more about seeing the divine light that we each have inside ourselves.

The rooster Chanticleer must outwit the cunning Fox to save his barnyard friends. Based on the Caldecott-winning children’s book “Chanticleer and the Fox” illustrated by Barbara Cooney, and hearkening back to Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, the rooster’s story will be accompanied by a soundtrack of Renaissance madrigals and motets sung by San Francisco’s very own Chanticleer. This concert will be suitable for children of all ages and we encourage families to attend!
