CHANTICLEER CONCLUDES ITS 2010-11 SEASON IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WITH ROMANTIC CHANTICLEER
SAN FRANCISCO, May 1, 2011—Chanticleer, the renowned 12-member ensemble described by The New Yorker as “the world’s reigning male chorus,” concludes its 2010-11 Bay Area season with Romantic Chanticleer, a series of eight concerts from June 3 – 12. The series begins in San Francisco, with concerts in Berkeley, Sacramento, Santa Clara, Walnut Creek, and Napa, with a final performance in San Francisco.
Romantic Chanticleer (Eight concerts, June 3 – 12, 2011)
Chanticleer sings from the heart about passion and pain, joy and eternity – in other words – about love. The lush music includes works by Daniel-Lesur, Strauss, Sviridov, Mahler, Whitacre, and Paulus, plus classics from the American song book made for the glorious and romantic sound of this orchestra of voices.
Chanticleer’s 2010-11 season featured the release of a number of new recordings. “A Chanticleer Christmas” from live performances in Stanford’s Memorial Church were released in collaboration with American Public Media as a CD and for downloads. Studio-recorded singles accompanying the ensemble’s 2010-11 repertoire also began on a regular basis. A new series of downloads, ”Chanticleer Live in Concert.” began with last season’s hit concert “For Thy Soul’s Salvation,” and continues with selections from Chanticleer’s long concert history.
Chanticleer was awarded Chorus America’s prestigious Education and Outreach Award for 2010, andrecently launched its newest educational program, introducing a small, mixed youth chorus for Bay Area singers aged 14-20 to be known as the Louis A. Botto (LAB) Choir in honor of Louis A Botto, the founder and original Artistic Director of Chanticleer.
Called “America’s favorite choral ensemble,” by the New Yorker magazine, Chanticleer has developed a worldwide reputation for its impeccable musicianship, beauty of sound, and wide-ranging repertoire from Renaissance and Mexican Baroque to jazz, gospel, folk, and adventurous new music.
