CHANTICLEER HOSTS
MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH CHORAL FESTIVAL

OCTOBER 23
AT FIRST UNITARIAN CHURCH

SAN FRANCISCO, October 7, 2009Chanticleer, the internationally renowned 12-man a cappella singing ensemble, hosts its bi-annual Middle School Youth Choral Festival on Friday, October 23 from 9 am – 3:30 pm at First Unitarian Church on Franklin Street in San Francisco. This is only one of several interactive education events offered by Chanticleer, addressing the needs in public schools to supplement, encourage and inspire work being done by choir directors and students.

This year the groups involved are from A.P. Giannini Middle School in San Francisco, Ochoa Middle School in Hayward, Graham Middle School in Mountain View, and Crystal Children’s Choir from Cupertino. Chanticleer ensemble members have already visited these locations to work with the children in preparation for the Festival, which is non-competitive. Groups bring a ten-minute program of music to share, and prepare “tutti” music selected by Chanticleer that participants will sing together at the end of the closing concert.

This season, Chanticleer’s education programs have reached some 660 students in 20 schools in the Bay Area. This includes 50 elementary school students, 235 in middle school, and 375 in high school.

The High School Youth Choral Festival will celebrate its 10th anniversary this season, and the scope of this has been extended from six to twelve participating groups: six from the Bay Area, and six from across the United States. In addition, the Festival has been extended from one full day to a four-day event, culminating in spectacular Gala Concert at Davies Symphony Hall on March 29, 2010, when Chanticleer and the twelve high school choirs (more than 200 students) join forces in song.
